Alarm is growing about rising food prices


As the price of wheat, maize, corn and other commodities that make up the world’s basic foodstuffs is soaring the poorest people in the poorest countries are the hardest hit. And as prices shoot up helping them is getting tougher too. The WFP’s food costs increased by more than 50% over the past five years.

This is an excellent article closely related to the stuff we are discussing! It is great because after only 7 weeks in economics you should be able to not only understand it (analytically) but also to evaluate the problem and the policies mentioned. It's also nice because it brings in to the discussion the plight of the poor, and they're very-very many of them in our world.
